Community Support

Memorial Day, Veterans’ Day, Armed Forces Day, and Flag Day are important days for The American Legion to remember and honor those who have served our Nation and paid the ultimate sacrifice, those Veterans who have served our Nation, those who continue to serve our Nation today, and their families. The Post regularly provides support for community observances, county-wide funeral details, and other events the community asks for Veteran support.

You will commonly see the American Legion participating in SW Iowa and Eastern NE parades, many times along side the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Tabor, IA.

The Glenwood Legion Family is a proud member of the Mills County Newcomers Program and the Glenwood Chamber of Commerce and supports these organizations through our volunteer efforts.

Veteran Support

The American Legion has partnered with the best Veterans Service Officers in the State of Iowa, beginning with the Department of Iowa American Legion Service Officers and the Mills County Veterans Affairs Office to ensure your VA claims and registrations are not forgotten. You earned these benefits, it is time to claim them if you are eligible.

We care a lot about our National Colors and honor our fallen comrades regularly, whether it be with Flag Day observances, Avenue of Flags events, or burial flag storage and proper disposal. We also do our best to provide Old Glory upon request.

Direct aid and social support are given through a wide variety of activities and service organization partners. They are too numerous to name but a few include Iowa Foundation, Veterans Assistance, DAV Van program and Mills County Veteran Affairs, and VA Voluntary Service.

SW Iowa Junior Shooting Sports Program encourages marksmanship and gun safety education for junior high and high school age youth. Each year, The American Legion of Iowa conducts a state match, which provides competitors an opportunity to test their marksmanship abilities against other shooters throughout Iowa.
