On Saturday morning, March 14, the hall at Harvey T. Rimel American Legion Post 141 was filled with families, laughter, and the smell of fresh pancakes during a new St. Patrick’s Day community event called “Pancakes with Paddy.”
The breakfast was hosted by Glenwood Beautification & Betterment (GB²), a volunteer-led community initiative focused on strengthening Glenwood through local projects, partnerships, and civic engagement.
Working together with local organizations, the event raised over $1,000 to support community efforts and the Glenwood Fire Department, while also creating a fun, welcoming morning for families across the community.
A True Community Collaboration
The event showcased what can happen when Glenwood organizations work together.
The Glenwood Fire Department volunteered their time at the griddle, cooking pancakes and sausage for a steady crowd throughout the morning.
American Legion Post 141 hosted the event inside their hall and kept the Black Rifle Coffee breakfast blend flowing for guests. Legion volunteers also served Irish coffees for the adults, which quickly became a favorite for those looking to add a little extra Irish spirit ☘️ to their morning.
Meanwhile, GB² volunteers organized family games, word hunts, fun raffles and activities for kids, making the event more than just a breakfast. Tables were decorated in green and gold, kids played games around the hall, and neighbors had a chance to connect and enjoy the St. Patrick’s Day atmosphere. Building on the spirit of the past ‘Kegs and Eggs’ breakfasts hosted by our fantastic local brewery, this year’s ‘Pancakes with Paddy’ introduced a more family-friendly format at the Legion hall, creating space for even more families and activities while continuing Glenwood’s St. Patrick’s Day tradition that many in the community have come to enjoy.
What is GB²?
Glenwood Beautification & Betterment (GB²) is a local volunteer initiative dedicated to supporting projects that enhance the community and bring residents together.
Through events, partnerships, and local projects, GB² works to help Glenwood continue to grow as a place where community pride, service, and neighborly spirit remain strong.
“Pancakes with Paddy” was one example of how community organizations can collaborate to support good causes while creating meaningful local traditions.
A Morning Full of Community Spirit
Families filled the Legion hall throughout the morning, enjoying breakfast together while kids participated in tabletop activities and games.
Green decorations, festive balloons, and a few surprise appearances from a friendly leprechaun helped add to the St. Patrick’s Day fun. The festive balloons that brightened the hall were generously donated by Balloon Bliss Studio, a home-based business owned and operated by Jenni Tibbs.
Events like this highlight what makes Glenwood special — neighbors supporting neighbors and local organizations working together to strengthen the community.

Looking Ahead
After a successful first year, organizers hope “Pancakes with Paddy” will continue to grow into a St. Patrick’s Day tradition in Glenwood — bringing together families, volunteers, and local organizations to celebrate what makes the community special.
Reflecting on the morning’s turnout, Post Commander Amy Muse shared what the event represented.
“Events like this remind us that the Legion isn’t just a veterans organization — it’s a place where the whole community can come together.”
With strong support from the community and local volunteers, organizers are already looking forward to making Pancakes with Paddy even bigger next year.
